This device is a text-only communicator. It can access the cellular network directly using SMS and GPRS as a carrier. Another low cost version of it has a Bluetooth capability and the cellular access goes via the GSM phone nearby.

Be in contact with your friends and family anywhere you go. And you do not have to pay much because the amount of GPRS data will remain very small while sending and receiving text only. The large display is important for chatting as well as the GKOS keyboard enabling fast typing.
